FAQ about the Focusing-Oriented Dynamic Facilitation
Questions you might have, if you are a Focusing practitioner
I already have Focusing experience, but I don’t know Dynamic Facilitation – what will I be learning in this class?
If you already practice Focusing, then you already have some basic skills and attitudes that can be very helpful for learning Dynamic Facilitation. For example, you already know how to listen deeply, and how to offer reflections that help a person deepen their own process. In addition, you have already developed some trust, based in experience, in the self-organizing process. In this workshop, you will be learning a powerful, leading-edge approach to group facilitation. As you do so, you will be discovering how the skills and attitudes you have already gained in the context of one-on-one partnership work, can be usefully applied in a group context.
I have heard that some Dynamic Facilitation workshops are three days. Will I be learning everything I need in a two-day workshop?
How will I be able to practice, if I am not already working with groups as a consultant or a coach?
Questions you might have, if you are already practicing as a facilitator or consultant
Will I be able to fully participate in this workshop if I don’t know already Focusing, or will I run into problems?
Welcome! We teach Dynamic Facilitation all the time, to people who don’t already know Focusing. Each person brings their own previous experience, and we do our best to build on what you already know, whether it’s Focusing or anything else. And what you bring, will also be of value to others. So yes, you can participate fully.
I already know and practice Dynamic Facilitation, but I don’t know Focusing – will I be learning Focusing in this workshop?
For those of you who are not familiar with Focusing (http://www.focusing.org), it is a very powerful method of "inner listening" that helps you connect more deeply, with your own body's knowing and wisdom. While this is not a workshop for "learning Focusing", you will certainly be getting more of a “feel” for what Focusing involves, and how it can deepen your ability to listen and to offer presence. We hope that this will inspire you to obtain further training and practice in Focusing.
If I already know and practice Dynamic Facilitation, how will this workshop help me deepen my knowledge and my practice?
Those of us who have practiced Dynamic Facilitation for many years, are continually learning and discovering new aspects of our work. In addition to sharing our own discoveries, we will be creating a context where we can all learn from one another.
