Dynamic Facilitation is a way of facilitating small groups that protects and supports each person’s creativity, thus allowing for new potent “crossings” or “breakthroughs” to emerge. It is particularly compatible with Focusing, as offering individual reflections and allowing next steps to emerge are both key aspects of this approach.

Dynamic Facilitation was originally created by Jim Rough in the United States. Thanks to the work of Matthias zur Bonsen, this new way of working with groups is now beginning to spread in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, where it is often described as “ganz anders moderieren.”

Like Focusing, Dynamic Facilitation has many different applications. Some consultants are using it with project teams and management teams in business settings (for examples, read some brief testimonies). In Austria, DF is being used in the public sector, to facilitate innovative public participation projects known as BürgerInnen-Räte. The use of Wisdom Councils is now spreading in Germany and in Switzerland, also. Yet DF is not limited to business or public sector use. It can also be helpful with families, community groups, non-profit groups – just about any kind of group can benefit from this approach. About Rosa Zubizarreta

Rosa Zubizarreta during a seminar at Zentrum für Focusing Kompetenz in HamburgRosa Zubizarreta, author of the Manual for Jim Rough's Dynamic Facilitation Method, has been practicing and teaching Dynamic Facilitation for over 10 years:
As someone who is deeply committed to both of these practices, I am particularly interested in the “crossing” of Dynamic Facilitation and Focusing. I love my work as a facilitator and a process consultant, working with groups of all kinds… and what I love most of all, is teaching others how to do this work!  My professional background is in organization development, social work, and education, and I have earned academic degrees in each of those areas. You can learn more about me on my website, and through some of the recent writings on my blog.
Ann Weiser Cornell, CEO of Focusing ResourcesAnn Weiser Cornell recommends Rosa Zubizarreta:
Rosa is great! She has a sensitivity to what can happen in a group when there is a safe space for all voices to be heard, and has a way of facilitating a group that carries forward each person's inner process as well.
